What about risk?
In translation as in other fields, risk control is key!
We should start by saying that since translation is a human activity, there can be no such thing as zero risk. Even several revisions by different people cannot eliminate the risk of error entirely.
That said, it is possible to minimise it by adhering to certain basic principles:
- choose a service provider who is specialised in your field
- find out about its procedures at an operational level (project management) and in terms of quality control (revision, translation memory audits, etc.)
- provide good-quality original documents (editable, without errors, legible)
- allow a reasonable deadline for completion of the project (project management, translation, revision, etc.)
Each service provider dedicates as much time and resources - both human and financial - as it wishes to risk control. Here, too, the fees charged can give you an idea of the level of control in place.
